BBcodes for Editing

Post by SiteAdmin » Mon Sep 26, 2016 11:30 am

I have added some additional bbcodes that can be used by selecting text and clicking on the appropriate button on the posting screen.

o = overstrike

sub = subscript

sup = superscript

tex = LaTeX equation (converted to inline image). Best to use an online LaTeX editor to get the expression syntax correct.

I've added some more editing buttons to insert ½, ∞, lowercase Greek and some basic math (± ≠ ≤ ≥ √). Just use the drop-downs above the editing box.

I also did some styling for the overline, subscript and superscript buttons.

Thanks, that will make life easier.

We also need the capital Greek letters such as the capital delta Δ because in RST it is very often that we talk about the expansion of something, so e.g. instead of writing out the progression of something literally like this:
37, 38, 39 ,40 ,41, 42, 43...

it is often useful to write it in the differential form, as:
+1Δ, +1Δ, +1Δ, +1Δ, +1Δ, +1Δ, +1Δ...
..indicating that something is expanding by one unit in every unit.

The symbols for common units such as Ohms, Webers (Flux) are also handy, not to mention degrees, the sum and the integral.

Δ
Ω
Φ
Θ
32ºF
β

÷
¼

It would be nice to be able to write down a crossratio with an obelus like this:
a/b ÷ c/d

I've added those symbols to the Math dropdown. Made a couple more changes...
  • Added a Logic dropdown to insert basic logic symbols.
  • Put the names of the Greek letters after the Greek characters.
  • Switched the font to Times (New Roman), which does a much better job displaying Greek letters and math symbols.
  • Increased the default font size from 10 pixels to 12 points, so it is now standard "book" size. Most browsers will allow you to zoom by hitting CTRL + (larger) CTRL - (smaller) and CTRL 0 (reset to default).
