It looks like he is reproducing Keely's experiments, but with a fancier setup. Keely used vibrating drum membranes in a fish tank, but got similar results showing attraction and repulsion that behaved like electric and magnetic fields, and demonstrated wave properties. (Keely's experiments are where I got the idea for the model from.)
It would be interesting if they could drop a rod instead of a ball in that setup--bet it would act like a magnet.
